The Dispute Resolution Center welcomes volunteers and offers the following opportunities:

Volunteer as a Phone Conciliator

Do you enjoy coaching others to solve problems with neighbors, tenants, landlords and co-workers? Would you like to help families prepare for going to mediation? Let us train you in the art of phone conciliation!

Each phone conciliator commits to a weekly 4-hour shift. They talk with callers about conflicts and assess the callers’ needs. They help figure out next steps, facilitate negotiation, explain DRC services and act as a neutral go-between. Conciliators also help with office work.

Training is on-the-job in a supportive, congenial environment. Conciliators learn the language of neutrality and respect and model effective communication skills for parties.

Volunteer as a Mediator

The Dispute Resolution Center has over 80 active volunteer mediators who help resolve conflicts in our community. Collectively, they contribute many hours of volunteer mediation time each year. The Dispute Resolution Center offers mediation training and a continuing education practicum for becoming a mediator. For more information about becoming a mediator, go to our ‘Being a Mediator’ page.

Volunteer with the Youth Ally Group (YAG)

The Youth Ally Group was  established in 2009 to enhance youth awareness, accessibility, and involvement in the DRC and to strengthen and ensure the organization’s sustainability. YAG members train close to 200 young people each year and support those who choose to go on to become mediators with the DRC. YAG meets the first Wednesday of every month and welcomes new members under the age of 35 who are interested in helping with outreach and training to youth and young adults.
