Job Description:

The Madison/Avanti Giving Garden is an educational raised-bed garden shared by Madison Elementary School and Avanti High School.  The garden offers peer-peer learning opportunities for students, a place to learn and grow, and serves as a gathering space for the greater school community.  We are an organic garden that grows produce for the school and for Thurston County Food Bank. We have a native plant garden designed to mimic key ecosystems of WA state and show the lifecycle of salmon.  With our small greenhouse, we are able to grow starts for an annual spring plant sale as well as for our own garden. A cooking program accompanies our garden and allows students to gain better knowledge of our food system and learn practical skills that help promote nutrition.

The Garden Co-Coordinator will be responsible for setting & facilitating Garden Committee meetings, hosting community events in the garden such as Work Parties, recruiting volunteers to help with education and garden maintenance, and generally taking care of the garden with help from the Avanti High School Sustainable Agriculture program.  You will be working with volunteers, teachers, and students in helping to create a unique outdoor educational experience for youth at both Madison Elementary and Avanti High School. We are looking for a parent, teacher, or community member from Madison Elementary School and an Avanti High School student to share this responsibility.
