Mount Rainier Institute Trip
The Mount Rainier Institute was four days of AWESOME! Students (and their teacher chaperones!) were pushed physically and mentally in the beautiful scenery of Pack Forest and Mount Rainier. Pack Forest is an experimental forest used by Washington State University and the Mount Rainier National Park. We learned what factors make a forest more prone to fires and how those fires serve an important ecological role in the forest. We measured the amount and rate of carbon sequestered by young, middle, and old trees. The data that students collected was then analyzed and findings were presented at a symposium with groups from our school and Lakes High School.

The food was great. Our facilitators, Sydney and Nicole, were amazing. And we give SO much thanks to our chaperone volunteer (David Paul) and the large donations we received that made it possible for all students to attend. A special thanks to Holly Beckford for her generous donation.
