Bridge Music Project
Starting Thursday, Feb. 15th The Bridge will be hosting an eight-week workshop where students will work together to write, record and perform original music. Participants will learn from experienced rappers, singers, and beat makers. Students of all experience levels and music styles are invited to participate. Tiempo Libre,  “An Introduction to Cuban Music”, A Field trip!
Date: Wednesday, February 21, 2018  Time: 9:30 am - 11:30 am. Students will walk down to the Washington Center for Performing Arts with Mr. Thedell et. al.  Age appropriate, entertaining, and informative for all ages! Super Smash Bros tournament fundraiser
On March 14th, 2018, during Activity Time after Session Registration, we are hosting a Super Smash Bros tournament fundraiser to benefit Blue Nile and our Ethiopian student, Bemelke. OHS Fastpitch looking for students
Nikki is a fast-pitch softball coach at Olympia High School and the program is looking for Avanti Students who are interested in earning P.E. credit by participating in the Spring fast-pitch softball Season. “LGBTQ+ Culture 101” Workshop
Join us for a workshop on LGBTQ+ culture. Topics include gender and sexuality, calling in versus calling out, intersectionality of identities, cultural vocabulary, internalized phobias, and internal and external policing. Three Cultural Awareness hours available. Workshop takes place Wednesday, February 14 from 11:40 am - 2:20 pm (Advisory day activity time) (Velasquez)

Pantages Theatre Field Trip
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!!" Get a sneak peak behind the curtain with a backstage tour of the beautiful Pantages Theatre in Seattle. We will travel with some students with the Capital HS drama club to get a special look behind the scenes to the set of "Hamilton" and a bit of the magic of technical theater. $10 transportation fee. Avanti Social Gathering
Come join us on the Thursday, February 8th at Vic’s Pizzeria (on the westside by Grocery Outlet) from 5:30-6:30 pm. Eat pizza and meet people and have fun! (Griggs)

Zero Hour Weight Lifting W/ Andy!
Want PE credit? New year's resolutions? Having started Wednesday January 3rd, I will be giving students an opportunity to do weight lifting on Monday and Wednesday mornings starting at 7:15am. All Students are welcome to join, and no weight lifting experience is required. I will be teaching weightlifting technique and exercise science to those who are interested. Students can earn PE credit! (Andy)

Scholarship Opportunities
Seniors- If you are college bound (including community college) and are interested in a career in health care, mathematics, engineering or computer sciences, please see Heather in the counseling office for into on the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship- up to $22,500 over five years!!

The West Olympia Rotary Scholarship is now available and is due March 15. Any student who is attending college next year and has a history of community service (meaning all Avanti students) is eligible. Stop by Heather's office for an application or download it directly from the website: www.westolympiarotary.org

The Larson Family scholarship (valued at $1,000.00 or $2,000.00) is available to graduating seniors who intend to major in political science and/or take college courses in preparation for a career in public policy, government, or politics. Application is due May 15. Please see Heather in the counseling office for more information and an application.

If you are a senior who has submitted an application to The Evergreen State College, please stop by Heather's office for a scholarship opportunity. 


Service Learning

Teen Open Mic Night and Coffee House
Saturday, February 3rd: 6:30-8:30 PM
Middle and high schoolers: bring your guitar, voice, writing, or any other performance art to the library for an evening of creative sharing. The lights will be low, the coffee will be hot, and the mood will be chill. Come be a performer and wow your friends, or support your peers as an audience member. Sign up for a performance slot at the door when you arrive. Refreshments will be provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library. The library will only be open to teens for this event. This is an after-hours program and no other library services will be available.
