Olympia Library Teen Upcycling Fair!
The Olympia Timberland Library will be hosting a DIY event for teens on Saturday, May 12th from 6:30-9pm. Below is the full description (which can also be found on the library's website). Please see Ainsley Austin or Avery Savin for more information or to claim a free ticket!! :)

At this after-hours, teens-only event, join us for a relaxing evening of upgrading unwanted objects in treasure. Cycle through stations that will give you the opportunity to create beautiful planters, transform old t-shirts into fashion, experiment with paper crafts and stamp-making, learn embroidery, and more! Feel free to bring in an article of clothing to trade at the clothing swap, or an old t-shirt to customize! Supplies will be provided, and you'll enjoy music, refreshments, and a fancy lemonade bar while you're creating. Sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library. This is an after hours program, no other library services are available. (Austin)

Olympia Timberland Library's Literary Magazine is Now Open for Submissions!
Attention 6th-12th grade writers and artists! The Olympia Timberland Library's semi-annual literary magazine, Onomatopoeia, is now accepting submissions for its next edition! Onomatopoeia is a teen-only, writing and arts magazine. All submissions are reviewed by the Teen Library Council and selected pieces will appear in the next issue, due out in mid-2018!

All teens 6th-12th grade who live in Thurston County may enter the literary magazine. Pretty much any firm of literary or visual art may be submitted (poetry, short fiction under 2,500 words, short plays, short essays/non-fiction under 2,500 words, inked drawing -no pencil please!- painting, photography, you name it. The Teen Library Council is also looking for great art to put on the cover- please let them know if you would like your art considered as a cover illustration. Please submit up to three entries each.

Email your submission as an attachment to include name (or pen name/anonymous), age, grade, school, and title of piece(s).

Summer School at ORLA June 25-July 25
If you are interested in attending summer school, please see Heather in the counseling office. The cost is $100.00 per class. If you have reduced or free lunch the cost is $50.00 (reduced) or no cost (free). You must be behind in credits in order to register for summer school. $10,000 scholarship with no current applicants! 
Seniors, did you attend schools in the Griffin school district for two years (or more)? If so, PLEASE fill out the scholarship application on this website: . This money can be used for community, tech or four year colleges. They current have no applicants for this $10,000 scholarship. See Heather in the counseling office for more info. (Kazda)

The yearbook is being made! If you would like to create a personal page with a friend or by yourself, parents can also submit for seniors, please email them to The personal pages must be school appropriate and approved by Hanby and the yearbook staff. We are also looking to have someone create the front and back cover! the winner of each will receive a free yearbook as a reward :) (Hanby)

Service Learning Opportunity - Madison Mad Dash
We're looking for volunteers for the Madison Mad Dash 5k Run/Walk. We will need help June 16th from 7:30 to noon. Split shifts will work too. The event will be at Heritage Park on Water street. This is a PTO fundraiser. Any assistance you can help provide will be greatly appreciated. Service learning hours offered. If interested, volunteers can contact

Thurston Talk Journalism Internships!
If you are interested in realistic job experience in the Journalism field, this internship may be for you! Thurston Talk is an online publication dedicated to local news. They host a school year-long internship for 10-12th graders to try out freelance journalism. Interns write one article per month and acquire experience in interviewing, photography, and communication. Friday D&D Sessions
Dungeons & Dragon (D & D) sessions are now going on every Friday from 10 am to 12 pm until the end of the year. Dice and character sheets are provided, but it is encouraged for people to make their own beforehand. If you are interested, see Maxwell Moe about further details. (Moe)

Math tutors needed
