Avanti joins the Coalition of Essential Schools
Avanti High School has affiliated with the Coalition of Essential Schools network of small schools. Avanti embrace's the CES "Common Principles" and shares a educational vision that promotes student's "intellectual, emotional, and social habits and skills to become powerful and informed citizens who contribute actively toward a democratic and equitable society." The school has been in alignment with the CES for many years, but, officially joins the educational network of small schools in 2016-2017.

OSD Night at the Rainiers set for April 15
Saturday, April 15 is the third annual Olympia School District Night at the Tacoma Rainiers. The Rainiers will take on the Albuquerque Isotopes beginning at 5:05 p.m. at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
All students, families, teachers, staff and the Olympia School District community are invited to join us for this fun-filled district event. Invite your friends and neighbors to join us and show support for the Rainiers and our schools. Last year we sold more than 200 tickets. Let’s see if we can surpass that this year!
Be sure to arrive on time to watch Superintendent Dick Cvitanich throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Then stick around after the game for “Kids Run the Bases.”
School calendar has been updated for 2016-17
The Olympia School District has extended the 2016-17 school year calendar in order to make up three school days that were missed this year due to inclement weather.The revised final day of school will be Friday, June 23, with all schools operating on a half-day schedule on June 23. The calendar may be revised again if there are any additional school closure days.
Superintendent search update: job announcement posted
Northwest Leadership Associates, the consulting firm assisting the Olympia School District in its search for a new superintendent, has posted an online job announcement for individuals interested in applying for the leadership position. Dates have also been set for daylong interviews with finalists, including an opportunity for community input.
The deadline to apply for the Olympia School District superintendent position is March 7, 2017. The individual selected will replace Dick Cvitanich, who retires effective June 30, 2017.
Learn about the role of a school board member and open seats in November
Learn about the role of a school board director and get information about the three board seats open in the November 2017 General Election during a community meeting on March 8.
People interested in vying for a seat on the school board, as well as those who want to learn more about the role, are encouraged to attend the meeting. The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Knox Administrative Center, 1113 Legion Way S.E. in Olympia.

Esta guía incluye normativas que pertenecen a los derechos y responsabilidades de los estudiantes del Distrito Escolar de Olympia. Son diseñadas para proteger los derechos de todos los miembros de la comunidad escolar. La implementación eficaz de estas pautas requiere el ejercicio de buena fe de parte de los estudiantes, los padres y todo el personal escolar.
District winter weather procedures
The Olympia School District wants to ensure every child and staff member arrives at school safely. Winter weather conditions may require the closure, late start or early dismissal of students. Occasionally, weather conditions may also make it necessary to modify bus routes to “emergency routes.”

Free parenting classes
The Olympia School District is offering FREE parent education classes with Candyce Lund-Bollinger during the 2016-17 school year. Candyce will present on a variety of topics focused on specific age groups from kindergarten through grade 12.
