Overview

This program offers youth internships with farmers in sustainable agriculture and food systems. Student interns will learn new skills and uncover potential career paths in Agriculture / Natural Resources through engaging, direct, hands-on learning. You will earn  0.5 credit in Sustainable Agriculture. We also offer a stipend of $500 to students dependent on funding for the program.

Application FAQs

• Do I HAVE to be 16 years or older to apply? No, but preference is given to older applicants

• What if I don't have a car or reliable transportation? Apply for the FoodBank Gardens as your preference as these are on the city bus line. Also reach out directly to Quasar as sometimes transportation needs can be worked out between the student and farmer on a case by case basis.

• Do I HAVE to have taken a course in Ag, Natural Resources or Tend Gather Grow? Yes, at least one. This allows Quasar to assess levels of responsibilty and commitment to Ag-related careers first hand.  It also gives students necessary background in order to be an effective intern on the farm.  Preference is given to students who have taken more than one class in Sustainable and/or Urban Agricutlure.

• Do I get paid? Yes. As long as we can secure grant funding to pay students, we will pay Sustainable Ag interns.  The other internships are unpaid. We do this given the nature of the internship (lots of physical labor) and to offset the need for transportation and sometimes equipment (ex. boots, clothes).
